Secure your company against cyberattacks this year

Cybercrime costs businesses roughly $1.79 million every minute. Unfortunately, as more workers clock in remotely, the risk of cyber threats grows.

What’s worse, most organizations aren’t prepared for an attack. In fact, a recent survey commissioned by Insight Enterprises found that nearly 80% of IT employees believe their companies lack sufficient protection against cyberattacks. More than 75% of organizations do not have any incident response plan if an attack occurs.

But there are several things you can do to help protect your company. Here’s what to do immediately:

Encrypt data

One of the most effective ways to protect against hackers is to encrypt data. Make sure all employees are encrypting sensitive data. This includes customer and employee information and all sensitive business data. Most systems include full-risk encryption software, which can encrypt desktop and laptop data.

Create a security plan

Your company should also have a thorough security plan. A good policy will include how and when to encrypt confidential information and establish a policy of who can access this information. Your policy should also require customers to log in to individual accounts and ensure that login credentials and passwords are regularly changed.

Educate staff

Every one of your employees should also know what your security policy entails. Educate employees on the potential cybersecurity risks and why security breaches are so dangerous to companies. Employees should be fully aware of the company’s security process, how to handle secure information and how to report suspected security breaches.

Install software and hardware.

Most computers have basic anti-virus software, but most of the time, these programs only detect ransomware after it’s too late. So it’s important instead to invest in software designed for ransomware and new risks.

You also want to prevent attacks before they enter your network. The best place to do this is with a firewall. Firewalls can stop hackers as well as block inappropriate websites. Install Firewall systems on every computer, phone, and network device used by employees. All companies should have anti-malware software, as well.

Reform your processes

While the steps above can help your organization to begin establishing a security policy, it’s not a substitute for an effective security plan. It’s also essential to partner with a trusted IT service and to automate and streamline your business practices.
